What Is BWRT®?

‘BWRT®’ stands for ‘BrainWorking Recursive Therapy®’, a model of psychology and psychotherapy created by UK professional therapist, Terence Watts, MCGI. It’s a totally confidential method that does not require you to reveal your private information or personal secrets to your therapist and it is carried out in a completely conscious state. It does not use hypnosis or any concepts that might be considered mystical or unscientific – it’s completely logical, practical and down-to-earth, and for it to succeed only needs you to know what you want to change in your life. Only Certified Practitioners have been trained to deliver BWRT® and all have to adhere to a strict ethical code. Find out more at www.bwrt.org

How Can BWRT® Help?

BWRT® may be helpful when you understand logically that something is safe or no longer useful, but your emotional response still seems to happen automatically. The work focuses on changing that unwanted response, without requiring you to relive an experience or share details you would prefer to keep private.

BWRT® Can Help With:

  • Anxiety and fears
  • Panic attacks
  • Unwanted habits and behaviours
  • Stress and overwhelm
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Performance anxiety, including sport, public speaking and exams
  • Unwanted emotional reactions
  • Difficult memories that still trigger a response

BWRT® can also be particularly useful for performance-related problems, where you know you have the ability but anxiety, nerves or an automatic response gets in the way when it matters. This can include sport, public speaking, exams or other situations where you feel under pressure to perform.

What Happens During a BWRT® Session?

You remain fully conscious and in control throughout a BWRT® session. We begin by identifying the response you want to change and what you would prefer to experience instead. You do not need to go into lengthy detail about what happened, and you will not be asked to relive difficult experiences.

The process itself is structured and focused. I will guide you through each stage, working with the unwanted response and then the response you would rather have. There is no hypnosis involved, and you do not need to try to make anything happen.

We concentrate on the response that is causing difficulty now and what you would like to be different, rather than analysing its history in detail.

For many people, one of the appealing things about BWRT® is that the work can be very focused. Rather than spending a long time analysing why a response developed, we concentrate on the response that is causing the problem now and what you want to be different.

How Many BWRT® Sessions Will I Need?

There is no set number of sessions because everyone and every problem is different. Some specific issues can respond surprisingly quickly, while more complex or long-standing difficulties may need more than one session. We can discuss this together as we go, and I will never encourage you to book more sessions than I believe are useful.

Is BWRT® the Same as Hypnotherapy?

No. BWRT® is a different therapeutic approach and does not use hypnosis. You remain fully conscious throughout the process. I use both BWRT® and hypnotherapy in my practice, and which approach we use depends on you, the problem you want help with and what I think is most appropriate.

Is BWRT® Right for Me?

If you are not sure whether BWRT® is the right approach for you, you do not need to decide before you contact me. We can talk about what is happening, what you would like to change and whether BWRT®, hypnotherapy or another approach is likely to suit you best.

Ready to Make a Change?

If there is something you would like to change, you are welcome to get in touch for a free 20-minute phone consultation. There is no obligation to book. It is simply a chance to talk about what is happening, ask any questions and see whether I am the right therapist for you.
